Hours:  37.5 hours per week – flexibility required

The post holder will be required to deputise for the Theatre Manager during their absence and provide strong leadership during these periods. In addition, the post holder will be required to participate in clinical duties as per the needs of the service and deliver exceptional standards in patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • In partnership with other professionals, provide excellent patient care. This process should include relevant assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the Hospital and Departmental policies.
  • Contribute to effective stock control.
  • Contribute to efficient patient throughput and reduced theatre turnaround times and take an innovative approach to improving this aspect of theatre practice.
  • Be a clinical expert in multiple surgical specialities / theatre disciplines and use skills where required to support the service and provide high levels of patient care
  • Ensure that all theatre documentation within the department is maintained to high standards (including electronic records).
  • Participate in conducting clinical audit to achieve the agreed standards and ensuring timely completion of audits by other lead practitioners.
  • Contribute to staff planning and produce a staff rota as required.
  • In conjunction with their colleagues, contribute to developing and maintaining a department ethos and a standard approach to the delivery of excellent patient care.
  • Provide a holistic approach to patient care and maintain excellent clinical standards of practice, within the ethos of the department, using research and evidence-based practice.
  • Adhere to goals and benchmark standards of care within their area, collaborating with other members of the theatre team to ensure the patient’s needs are met to a consistently high standard.
  • Promote awareness and compliance amongst colleagues regarding Hospital & Departmental policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.
  • Actively participate in the Hospital’s framework of clinical governance within the department area.
  • Identify and report clinical risks and report to the Theatre Manager so that appropriate action can be taken in accordance with the Hospital risk management policy.
  • Ensure that all incidents involving staff, patients and visitors are reported via Datix and acted upon in accordance with Hospital policies and assist in any investigations as required.
  • Take part in the out of hours theatre on call rota
  • Participate in the Hospital’s appraisal and personal development plan schemes.
  • Participate in the programme for clinical supervision as required.
  • Maintain a personal, professional profile, identifying role and skill developments in line with the NMC Code / HCPC Standards of Proficiency
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment for colleagues and students.
  • Provide training to other staff members as required.
  • Use data which will contribute to the improvement of patient care.
  • Undertake relevant training in both paper and electronic information systems that are in place or under development.
  • Follow Hospital/Departmental guidelines to access patient results.
